Tonight we had another successful planning meeting for the upcoming July 4th "Celebrating America" event at Centennial Park. We've been meeting weekly for several months, and we've worked very hard between meetings, but this is a big project and time is now getting short.
The "old fashioned" event will feature traditional games, music, speeches, education, and a great view of two major fireworks displays.
The event will be non-political, open to the public, and FREE. We'll begin about 3:00 and stay till the fireworks are over. We hope to see many families and we'll have activities for every age group.
We'll have food and snow cone vendors (not free...sorry). We'll have shirts, glowing bracelets and necklaces, flags, Constitutions, and other traditional souvenirs for sale.
I'm especially looking forward to the representatives from the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). They'll arrive dressed in period costumes, will present the colors, and then share educational and inspirational stories about famous and ordinary people that helped to create our great country.
We'll have several notables and dignitaries speaking about what America means to them. We'll also have a terrific band playing familiar and uplifting music.
Bring your family, bring your friends. Deals like this only come around once a year!
